Apartment in former Palacio (Palacete) Granada City Centre ,Andalucia , Spain

Located just a stones throw from the Cathedral we are bang in the centre of the city albeit on a quiet residential street. The apartment is located on the third floor and is a duplex.. The floor area is 72sq metres approx. As you enter, the separate kitchen is on the left. The main sitting room looks out on a large private courtyard. There is an internal stairs to the bedroom, which contains one double bed, is over the main living room. The internal stairs makes it unsuitable for young children. The bathroom has just been refurbished and contains a shower, bidet, toilet and washbasin. It is simply decorated with plain white walls and marble floors. Over the years we have added a number of pictures and an increasing number of books. There is a washing machine and a fridge which we use and a working cooker which we don't, preferring to eat out. We have bought a microwave with our visitors in mind but must confess to not using it ourselves yet! The heatwave of 2015 led to the purchase of a free standing fan to boost the air con.The house itself was built in 1800 and the façade and other major works were carried out in 1868.It features in the Architectural Guide to Granada as a  sympathetic conversion. The first picture shows the main marble patio.Others show the second private patio visible from the living room window. The apartment is on the third floor accessed by a marble staircase (67 steps) and there is no lift. It is located directly across the street from the Law Faculty and the charming well tended  Botanic Garden. It is close to a vibrant night life but is a quiet place and most of the other residents are older people with a low tolerance for noise. One of our favourite restaurants is the Botanico on Calle Malaga on the corner. While there is no internet access in the apartment the Botanico has wifi and the staff are very helpful. There are charming squares and historic buildings too numerous to mention all around.
In short the apartment comprises 4 rooms, a living room, separate kitchen, mezzanine bedroom (with a firm double bed 4ft 6ins) and newly renovated bathroom. There is a fold up single bed.
We use it as a holiday home, the public swimming pool at Fuentenueva is a 15 minute walk away with sitting out area and cafe. This is currently closed for renovation but is scheduled to re open in 2025. There are two late night shops nearby but we have rarely cooked and while there is an oven hob and microwave the kitchen contents are basic.
No wifi but free wifi available in the Cafe/Bar of the Reina Cristina Hotel on Tablas or the Botanico on Malaga.
Flying to Malaga we usally get the bus to Granada 1.5 to1.75 hours journey time.(alsa.es is the bus website and there is now a service from Malaga Airport to Granada) Malaga Airport is approx 136 km from Granada. From Granada Airport you can catch the airport bus to Cathedral stop and a 5  - 10 minute walk through the adjoining narrow streets to the apartment. A car is a liability due to narrow streets and parking. I cannot emphasise the central location enough. All of our neighbours are Spanish so our visitors will experience real as opposed to tourist Spain. I fell in love with Granada when I first visited over forty years ago and the affair continues unabated. I have amassed a good selection of books (all in English) about Spain,Granada and Lorca, the local hero.
Happy to answer any questions or queries by e mail.Over the years we have put together an opinionated booklet of suggestions and tips which we send to our Intervac friends. There is a folder of Tourist information in the apartment but as Granada is a hive of cultural activity we recommend an early trip to the tourist office. A surprising number of events such as exhibitions and concerts are free or moderately priced.
Actively seeking long weekend in London or Paris anytime visitors welcome to stay longer in Granada as it is a second home.
Lots of videos on YouTube and pictures of our patio on Airbnb as one of our neighbours is a host.

Lifestyle

We are both avid readers and there are plenty of books to be found in the apartment. We are also great fans of the cultural life of Granada and enjoy the frequent exhibitions and concerts. Keen walkers and urban explorers!
