We are flexible on dates but we would like a week just after Christmas in a small historic Northern European city or town near countryside that ideally we can travel by train to reach. We would like to visit Tours, Heidelberg,or similar in France, Germany or Scandinavia. Also consider June or September 2026 for a summer 2 week trip.

Lovely 1850s Townhouse in the heart of of Cotswolds

The house is a nice 6-8 mins walk into Cirencester- a beautiful Cotswolds stone town with a lovely Abbey church, lots of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, Saturday market, a good museum on Roman history. The house has quite step stairs and is furnished with vintage furniture and antiques ( hence it’s not ideal for children).

A car is ideal as there are lots of lovely villages for country walks and other towns nearby (Oxford is one hour drive). But it’s also possible to get some buses. The house has TV, wood burner, WiFi, washing mac and dish washer. It’s worth noting that the house sitters bedroom is on the top floor and the bathroom and loo, one floor below. There is a big dining table and four chairs. There is a small garden which overlooks a pretty public park. We would consider car exchange.

There are also two friendly cats, so the house sitters must like cats and be able to look after them well. Hector is a 12 year 3 legged tabby cat who loves people and will want to sit on your lap when you are home and Mabel is a 8 year old black white who takes a bit longer to get to know you. The pet care involves feeding twice a day, maintaining a clean litter tray, and being able to stoke Hector in the evening ( he can’t groom his head because of no back leg, and loves being ticketed around his ears). They are fine to leave in the day and go out freely from the catflap day and night.
