Single Storey House in Spanish Point, County Clare, Ireland
Our holiday home is in Spanish Point, 2 kms from Miltown Malbay, in Co. Clare. The cottage overlooks the nearby Atlantic Ocean, and the sandy beach of Spanish Point is only 2 minutes' walk away.
The holiday home has two living areas, joined by an open-plan kitchen and dining area. The three bedrooms (one en-suite) comfortably sleep five. There is also a small patio area ideal for barbecues and outdoor dining. It is one of 10 cottages built as holiday homes in the early 1980s, and was extensively renovated in 2005.
Activities within a short walking distance include golf (see below), fishing, swimming and surfing. The Armada Hotel is just next door, while the many traditional Irish pubs of Miltown Malbay are a couple of kilometres away. To enjoy the area, a car is needed as there is no public transport in the area (nearest car hire - Shannon Airport, 40 minutes away). We do not exchange cars.

The area is famous for its scenery, and for traditional Irish music and pubs. Within a 30 minute drive from the house are the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin (with boats to the Aran Islands), the Burren (scenic landscape, great for cycling and hiking), the Ailwee Caves, Lisdoonvarna Spa town and many other tourist attractions. Wonderful location, close to the beach and lots of hiking and sightseeing opportunities. Eimear and Owen did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable, took really good care of our house and responded quickly if we had any questions. There was lots of information about things to do and the house. The house was so light and comfortable, we felt at home immediately.
This was our first exchange and it was a wonderful experience for us! Our lovely exchange family made us feel so welcome in their home and we really enjoyed exploring lovely Co. Clare.
Una familia encantadora y acogedora. El baño colectivo con el vecindario en el mar fue inolvidable. ¿Y qué decir de Irlanda? Espacios naturales preciosos, y gente cantando en los pubs. Un lugar mágico.
Wonderful house and wonderful area. Everything was very nice. The Irish friends was very nice. We had a dinner together and it was very interesting and important to define our program. As always for us to meet the persons we do the exchange is useful to remember the spirit of Intervac.

We are Owen and Eimear, an Irish couple. We are in our 70s. We were both lawyers. Eimear has retired and Owen works part time.
We enjoy travelling, walking, history and culture. Our children are now grown up, so it is just the two of us on holidays. We are happy to head away on holidays at reasonably short notice, and have gone on 39 exchanges using this and another exchange site).
As this is a holiday home, we are quite flexible about exchange times.
